You know I’m not very smart. However, did you know it doesn’t bother me to not be smart? I’m very free about acknowledging my lack of knowledge. It’s actually quite liberating to have zero reason to ever be embarrassed or ashamed.
Another great thing about knowing nothing is there are so many things you still get to learn. I was a grown man before it came to my attention Bill Bellamy wasn’t part of the Bellamy Brothers.
Growing up, I had no idea who either was. I had heard of Bill Bellamy, but being from a poor family with no cable TV, I had never seen MTV or Bill Bellamy. Also, I had heard of the Bellamy Brothers, and even had a brother that owned one of their cassettes or CDs. Never bothered to find the cover art for the album to know what they looked like.
There is another upside to being this ignorant. Every time somebody would mention Bill Bellamy, I would always ask if, “His brother(s) going to be there too?”, and everyone would always laugh. People actually thought I was making a joke, a REALLY good joke.
Well, at some point many, many, sadly, too many years later my buddy Shamar explained the Bellamy Brothers sang, and didn’t do comedy, and Bill Bellamy was a brotha who didn’t sing, but did great comedy! Imagine all the things I could have learned growing up if I had gone to college, or at least had cable. Never too late, right?
Looking forward to seeing Bill Bellamy at the Peoria Civic Center. Check out how you can get (and win) tickets. You can also win them as a member of Friends With Benefits. ~Noah
