What could possibly be better than having a puppy at home to play with after a long day at the office?
Answer: How about a puppy at work everyday for the past 14 months!
Well if you were part of the Today show, you were lucky enough to work with Wrangler, the Yellow Labrador Retriever who has been making special appearances on the show since December of 2015. Anchors welcomed Wrangler onto the set when he was 8 weeks old. This not only makes him the youngest member of the Today show family, but he is also the youngest member to have his own Today show Twitter handle, (YES this pup has a Twitter) tweeting “Woof!” after an appearance on the show back in January 2015.
The name Wrangler came to be by a vote from viewers of the Today show. In his time with the show, Wrangler made his debut on the TODAY plaza, accompanied crews on road trips, met celebrities, and even celebrated his first birthday. But this past Sunday the pup announced on Instagram (YES he has an Instagram account too) that after 288 shows, this would be his last week. Which brings us to today.
Earlier this morning, tears were shed as the anchors of the show said goodbye to their four-legged friend and wished him well in his next adventure in life. You see, Wrangler has been working with Guiding Eyes For The Blind and has used his time with the Toady show to train as a seeing eye dog. A video tribute was given in Wrangler’s honor, including footage of the dog’s first snow and his first birthday.
Good luck Wrangler! This puppy with a purpose really sheds a light on the phrase “man’s best friend”.
