My Experience With Twenty One Pilots In St. Louis

I saw Twenty One Pilots in concert and now I don’t know what to do with my life.

In December, I received the greatest Christmas present ever given: tickets to see one of my favorite bands of all time- Twenty One Pilots. At the time, August seemed like it was light years away, but those eight months flashed by and whether I could believe it or not, it was time to see TøP.

Entering the arena was like an out of body experience. I was so excited I felt like I was going to internally combust. Everyone was decked out in all their band merch. I have honestly never seen more beanies in my life.

Swedish band Chef’Special started the night with upbeat reggae vibes. They were followed by Mutemath who put on an amazing show. I had never been more ready to see TøP and I know everyone else felt the same.

When lights turned off, I have never heard a louder sound. The audience erupted in applause and screams and you can bet I was doing the same.

The stage lights turned on and it was game over. Josh Dun and Tyler Joseph took the stage and my life was forever changed.

Their energy was incredible. Flips off of pianos and disappearing offstage and reappearing on the third tear of the arena were just a couple of examples of the many amazing stunts they pulled Tuesday night.

I have never seen a band incorporate a crowd more. From walking and playing the drums on the them to running around in a giant inflatable ball above them, everyone felt like a part of the show, regardless of the fact that there were 13,000 people there.

However, they did not let the special effects and stunts overpower their music. Though they are amazing performers they are also incredible musicians. Not one missed note or a word sang off key. They played almost all of my favorite songs and even covered songs like “Twist and Shout” and “My Heart Will Go On.”

I was worried that the arena would be filled with people who only knew songs, “Stressed Out,” “Heathens,” or “Ride,” but I was pleasantly surprised that the crowd sang along to every song that they played.

I never wanted the night to end. The two hours they were on just were not enough, but those two hours they did play were some of the best of my life. I mom-danced the night away and 100% lost my voice from belting out every word, but I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.

Twenty One Pilots will be playing in Moline at the iWireless Center on January 29th and if anyone has an extra ticket, you know where to find me.
