I consider myself very lucky. When it came time for me to go to college, I received enough scholarship and grant money that my parents were able to pay for me to go to Bradley University. I did have to graduate in 4 years and keep my GPA at a certain level or else Sallie Mae may have been a friend of mine.
Not knowing the burdens of having to deal with payments to Sallie Mae, I hear about it from too many of my friends. Everyone has done their math differently to know that with that money they could have bought a house, their dream car, travel the world or just a lot of extra money in their pocket. I will say that I am in debt from a lot of stupid purchases fresh out of college. My struggle is different, but I do dream of being debt free.
I have no clue what I would do with that extra money. It would probably disappear into some other new bill. The thought of being out of debt is something I would at least want to celebrate.
Rapper Dee-1 did just that. Once he knew that he would never receive another call from Sallie Mae asking for payment, he wrote a song and made a video about it. One day, I will be debt free, and I will not be rapping about it. Enjoy the video below.
