Nelly owes a reported $2.4 million to the IRS, and about $150k to the Missouri Department of Revenue. Fans immediately jumped to the internet to #SaveNelly. Since you can do everything on the internet, their brilliant plan is to increase their Nelly music streams, so he can make up the money he owes. Never mind that it would take between 300 and 400 million streams to generate the amount of money he owes, and he’s worth reportedly over $60 million, so he can probably just get on a payment plan.
Did some simple math, and if he does about 5 shows a month between now, and next Christmas, he will have more than enough money to pay what’s owed, and also the taxes on the money he makes at each of those shows to keep him from getting into the same trouble again.
Nelly has 2 of the top 15 selling rap albums of all time, he’s still making money on Country Grammar and Nellyville. He just needs to remember to still pay his taxes for that income.
On a personal note, I am really pulling for Nelly. He’s one of the kindest people I have ever met, and generously donated to my sister-in-law’s cancer benefit. He’s going to be fine, and he’s got many great years still ahead.
