Are You The One that Got Away?
Check this poll out! Did you know Katy Perry wrote her song “The One That Got Away” about Josh Groban. A new poll asked, “Is there a person who you consider to be ‘the one that got away'”? And 39% of people said YES. Here’s the breakdown: 11% of people said, “There’s someone I currently feel this way about.” Another 28% said, “There’s previously been someone I felt this way about.” 46% “have never felt this way about someone” . . . and 16% “don’t know.” Men were more likely to say they have “someone who got away.” And it was more common among Millennials and Gen X’ers than Boomers and Gen Z.
Get A Scare, Get Paid!
Love Halloween and scary movies? A cable and Internet comparison site called CableTV is looking to pay someone to watch, rank, and review horror movies. They’re calling this position a “Thrillternship”. Quote, “This position is not for the faint of heart, we’re looking for real fans of fear, enthusiasts of the eerie, and devotees to the dreadful.” The “Thrilltern” will earn a VERY SCARY $666, plus a $50 Uber Eats gift card and a one-year subscription to Screambox. Applications are open until October 7th, and you must be at least 18 years old. The Thrilltern must choose five horror movies from their list of the scariest movies. Here are 13 movies found on their list:
1. “A Nightmare on Elm Street” (1984)
2. “Candyman” (1992)
3. “The Evil Dead” (1981)

Stop Painting the Squirrels
Animal Control in Connecticut is investigating how two squirrels ended up painted blue and red. They shared photos, and are asking for help in identifying the people responsible for doing this.
They say the squirrels “appear to be okay” . . . but they’re asking for help in identifying the person or people responsible for doing this, and why. Some are joking it was a gender reveal gone bad. Which, sadly, is possible.
Interestingly, this has happened before. Last year, a 62-year-old man in New York was arrested for trapping and spray-painting squirrels a bright, “apple red” color. It’s still unclear WHY he did it . . . or how he was caught.
Happy National Dog Day!
45% of Americans have a dog, versus 32% who own cats. A new poll found medium dogs are our favorite. Only 25% of us would get a big dog, mainly because we just don’t have room for one. Happy National Dog Day! A new poll by the pet food brand Hill’s looked at HOW we’re most likely to get a dog in 2025. And it’s not from a shelter, or a pet store. If you got your dog from a friend or family member, you’re not alone. 33% of dog owners got their last dog that way. Shelters and breeders are next at 24% each. Then pet stores at 18%, and 10% found their dog as a stray. The big difference with cats is we’re more than twice as likely to adopt a stray. 22% got their cat when it just strolled into their life off the street. But back to dogs: The poll looked at different SIZED dogs to see what our favorite is. Are you a big dog person, small dog person, or somewhere in the middle? MEDIUM dogs are the most popular. That’s anywhere from 26 to 54 pounds. Small dogs are next, and just 25% say they’d want a BIG dog. The top reasons for not wanting a big dog include not having enough room for one . . . they’re harder to travel with . . . and it costs more to feed them. Whether or not you can keep up with them also matters. 34% of people under 45 would get a big dog, compared to just 18% of people older than that.

He Got Caught Because Of Her New Jeans
A woman accidentally discovered her husband was cheating, when she went on a cleaning forum to ask why everything was turning green, including her cat, and someone suggested it could be new Old Navy jeans. Last month, a woman went online to ask people for CLEANING TIPS. She noticed that everything in her house was TURNING GREEN, and she couldn’t figure out what was causing it. The green coloring was showing up on couch cushions . . . bed sheets . . . carpeting . . . her own socks . . . her phone charger . . . and even her CAT.
In her posts about it on Reddit here, you can see the whole thing unfold, she showed pictures where you could clearly see a green hue showing up on everything. She tested for mold . . . that wasn’t it. She tested to see if it was her detergent . . . that wasn’t it either.
There were a lot of theories, but one person suggested that it could be brand new jeans from Old Navy . . . because “they stain everything.”
The woman said that her and her husband aren’t jeans people . . . but then someone else said, quote, “Imagine this is how you discover he’s having an affair with some Old Navy-wearing woman, from the cat turning green.” Right here!

Congrats, Your Not Really Fired, But You Gotta Go
Companies are so passive aggressive now. A poll by the site Resume Builder found 38% of companies lay people off instead of firing them . . . just to avoid hurting people’s FEELINGS. 80% of bosses said their company has laid someone off in the past year when they could have fired them for cause. Sometimes it’s out of kindness, like to avoid hurt feelings or help out with severance. But the #1 reason they do it is more self-serving .
1. To maintain company morale. 62% of bosses cited it as a reason. So, we react better if we think our friend got laid off because the money just wasn’t there.
2. To avoid wrongful termination lawsuits. A close second at 59%.
3. To help the person out with a severance package, 54%. So, that one’s nice.
4. To avoid hurting their feelings, 38%. The old line, “You know I think you’re great. Corporate just gave me no choice.”
According to the poll, layoffs that aren’t REALLY layoffs are more common than you’d think. Half of the bosses polled said at least 75% of layoffs their company made in the past year weren’t really about cutting costs.
