Last night, I had the privilege of seeing Suicide Squad. Though I had no prior background knowledge of the comic series that it was based on, the very edgy and intense trailers had me pumped ever since the beginning of summer.
There are very mixed reviews on the movie; some say it is amazing while others say it is a huge flop. I however, can see both sides.
I think the movie was neither thumbs up or thumbs down. It was one major thumb to the side. The casting was spot on. Having Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and Jared Leto as The Joker was absolute perfection. They encapsulated their insane persona’s so well, you find yourself second guessing if they are even acting. Obviously, you can never go wrong with Will Smith. The Fresh Prince showed off his bad ass side and dang, 47 never looked so good. Cara Delevingne seems to always be hit or miss with me, but this time she was definitely a hit. She had a tough role to pull off, but I think she did The Enchantress major justice.
But while the casting was spot on, there were some parts of the movie that seemed to fall flat. From the beginning of the movie, the flow seemed to be off. Scenes became choppy, making it hard to follow. The story line, while interesting, was a little too out there for me. I know that the movie is supposed to be more on the strange and demented side, but at some point it got a little carried away. But hey, some people are probably into that.
Though the movie may not have been as awesome as I had anticipated it to be, I still really enjoyed it and say what you will, but that movie had one of the most kick-ass playlists I have ever heard in major motion picture.
All in all, I still think if you are into action films with great actors, awesome songs, and a weird ass story line go out and see Suicide Squad. It is definitely an experience.
