The first few months of freshman year were rough. If I had known some of these things, maybe it wouldn’t have been so hard.
1. Your major might change and that’s okay.
I, and most of my friends, have changed majors. Some of them are minor changes within the same field, others are dramatic changes. It’s okay to change your major, you’re still trying to figure out exactly what you want to do. When you find it, you’ll know.
2. Your friends the first week of class aren’t going to be your friends for the next four years.
Your friends during orientation, and the first week of class won’t last. You’re still getting settled, and you’ll grow apart, it happens to everyone. You’ll see each other around but you will make friends with the people in your classes and major.
3. Studying in college is different than studying in high school.
In high school I got good grades, and really didn’t have to try. Everyone told me it would be harder when I got to college, but that’s what they said about high school (which wasn’t true at all), so I figured college would be a breeze too. It’s not, you actually have to try.
3 a. You cannot study and watch Netflix at the same time.
4. Coffee < Sleep
Drinking coffee is not the same thing as getting a full night of sleep. No matter how much you drink.
5. The drama isn’t over. It never will be.
You’re finally finished with high school, so you’re finally finished with the drama, right? WRONG. Drama will always be a part of your life. Some people just like to stir s*** up.
6. It’s a big adjustment.
No parents. No rules. It’s okay to do some ~slightly~ crazy things, but think about the consequences because they are real.
7. Don’t start dating someone the first month of school.
Starting college is enough of an adjustment without trying to be in a new relationship.
8. Let go of toxic relationships.
Whether they are friendships or relationships it takes more strength to let go. Don’t hate, don’t be mad at them, just let go, it’s whats best for both of you.
9. Have fun.
You’re only in college once, so make the most of it. These really will be the best days of your life if you let them.

PS don’t wear a lanyard around your neck, it labels you as a freshman.
