Let’s take a second and talk about Lady Gaga at the Oscars last night. First of all she sounded incredible. She also used her time on stage not to promote herself but instead she shed light on an issue that isn’t easy to talk about. In her performance last night she sang her song from the movie The Hunting Ground “Til It Happens To You” and invited survivors of domestic violence and rape, both male and female, to stand with her on stage her. Her performance was emotional and beautiful. As a female college student this is something that I have to worry about. 1 in 4 women on a college campus is a victim of rape or attempted rapes. This is likely something that will happen to me or someone I love before I graduate. As a college student and someone who worked at a domestic violence agency, I would like to thank Lady Gaga for bringing attention to this important issue.
